About the Band
-
We are Super Size Seven, a contemporary rock band based out of Eastern Iowa since 2003. Our mission is simple, to play music people want to hear and to crank up the energy until everyone is having a good time. No matter where we play, no matter how big the crowd, we give it everything we've got, and then a little more. The goal is to get people out into the live music scene wherever we play by being entertaining and playing music that is recognizable and upbeat. We know our fans could sit at home and watch TV, or surf around, or be doing other things besides watching live music. So we do our best to make it worth their while by making our performance a very fun experience.

Emmet Berry
"I am just a city boy, born and raised in south Detroit." How very true that is. I moved to Iowa when I was 15, and went to high school with the other two fellows in this band. It was an easy transition, for the most part, and I eventually found many new friends. However, not until this band formed, did I find the very best friends of all. I know, I know this doesn't sound like your normal Bio. You know the ones, when I played, who I played with, and how many different bands influenced me, but Mark and Steve are who I play with, why I play, and what influence me. And I thank them.
If you come to , or have seen a Super Size Seven show, you would understand where the energy comes from. It comes from us, and our great audiences. Whether the crowd size is 2 or 2000, you get everything that is expected from a rock show. This of course is from the brotherhood binded by this band, we are Super Size Seven! Nothing less! As for the other people involved, like Steve Gunderson, Bob Rammelsburg, Craig Dietrich, Christi Moss, and the heart of the band Sandy Junge. I thank you all. There are also many others, and I thank you all as well.
More personally, I have two beautiful children Mariam, 6 and Evan, 5. They are music to my ears everyday. They soon will be part of this band, because I need someone to pack my gear after the show. I also want to thank them, because they have had to put up with Grandma and Grandpa, everytime I am at a gig. Thanks Mom and Dad.
I know this sounds like an acceptance speech, or some kind of "thank you" letter, and that is exactly what it is. My biography is built by the people in my life that have "accepted" me. This particular time in my life has been very special, and I am very thankful for that.

Mark Moss
"My influences growing up were good - sing like you don't care anyone's listening!"
As a result, Mark started singing and performing when he was about 8. Music has always been natural to him.
When he was but a wee boy, he briefly played guitar, but quit because "it didn't sound like Kiss." Alas, it was a nylon string.
When it's in your blood, you never quit, so Mark studied music while growing up and somehow never stopped loving the music of a loud electric guitar. His neighbors sometimes ask if it will ever stop... uh... no...
Mark's singing influences have always been singers who "just wail like no tomorrow, with power, with commitment, the best you can. You feel it when a song hits you and stirs up something primal." said Moss in an interview.
Mark joined his first band in high school. As soon as he could drive, he was playing local gigs in a band called "Pressure Point." They were all the same age and "jamming was such a rush, especially playing in front of people." Yep, he was addicted.
He joined his next band in college - "Branded Ace/Wasted Talent/Vexxed (we changed names with different players)." Mostly classic rock with newer heavier music mixed in, the band played at local bars and parties. A lot of "bulking up musically with a great group of guys who all pushed each other to play better and better."
Soon afterwards Mark joined forces with an established band "Whiplash" out of eastern Iowa. They covered the newest songs of the era, wore boots, had long hair (even sported a super sexy mullet - oh yeah) and kicked a lot of ass, very loudly.
Mark keeps busy outside of music too: golfing, fishing, trying-to-stay-active-ing, "...boredom is a lack of imagination and ambition. I mean come on..." says Moss.
Mark's motto is that he "...will never stop performing, feeling or being music. Those who make music can only give back to others, it's for those people that I always give as much energy in a performance that I can."

Some of my earliest memories involve me leaning against the piano and harmonizing while my Mom played Classics and Pops. I would wedge my head right up against the side of the piano and let the rumble of the low notes rattle through. Come to think of it, that alone explains a lot of things! From that point on, I couldn't resist anything with a great melody.
Looking back, I have my Grandparents, my Mom and my Brother to thank for influencing me the most musically. My grandparents played in a big band when they were my age, and oddly enough, I am now playing some of the same venues they played fifty some years ago. My brother set a standard for me to let me know that your best can always be better. I keep that in the front of my mind always. Don't settle. I am also very lucky that music was always a very important thing in my family. How many parents do you know move the dinner table out of the dining to let you set up a double bass drum kit? Thanks mom and dad!
Gigging for me started at 14 or 15 with a band called "Night Eyes". We were a conglomeration of a lot of different people from high school, and we played cover tunes of the day. That's actually how I got to know Mark Moss. His sister Trudy played keyboards in that band. From there, I graduated on, and played with a few different groupings of people to see if there was band potential. I was ready to play in clubs very soon after, but I was still shy of the drinking age by about 6 years.
My next official gig came with a band called "Top Secret". It was actually a splinter band started by one of the keyboard/guitar players in "Sage". I played with them for only a little while, then the drum seat was available in "Sage", and I jumped at the chance. I was happy to get a chance to play 2 or 3 times a week in a really good, established band. Several years down the road, it was time to part ways with them, but I still keep in touch, and I thank them for helping me get involved heavily in the music scene, and learn what its like to play shows on consecutive nights and weekends. That’s where I learned that the little things like intensity level that you practice at home, come across big on stage. Thanks Kurt!
After "Sage", it was time for me to take a little time to re cooperate and work a little harder on my drumming away from bands and groups. But like it always happens when you are a musician, you meet people and itch like hell to be back on stage. I started jamming with another group of guys that became the band "Insomniac". We were a group that did nothing but originals, and we mostly fleshed out new tunes, and recorded. We played a few gigs, but not a lot, mostly by choice. We liked to write and record, and that was the focus. Then, Mark Moss and I ran into each other at a class reunion, and started to chat. Those talks led to the birth of one of our current performing bands, "Super Size Seven", which has been going strong for 7 years now. I love playing in "Super Size Seven". Emmet, Mark and I are like brothers since we have known each other since Junior High School.
Recently, I have started to accept more gigs playing in jazz groups and also in pit orchestras for several local theatre companies. I really enjoy this work and hope to continue my relationship with them. 2009 was also a good year for me in the studio as well. The new Toney Baloney CD "41 Years" is finished and has been released, and I am currently in the process of playing drums on and co-producing the second record for singer/songwriter Brian Troester. It is in the final stages of recording, and the CD should be out before the end of the year. For updated information on all of the projects I am involved with, go to www.stevejunge.com.
For me it all boils down to the stage. That's really the nuts and bolts of who you are as a performer. If you are not on stage, who are you? I don't do this to play in my home studio, I do it because of the live performances. Give me guitar amps that are so loud they peel paint, and give me drums that "sing" and pound into my chest and I never stop smiling.
History
Super Size Seven was founded in December 2002 in Solon, Iowa, by the existing members of the band. What started out as stress relief for Mark & Steve soon turned into something more once Emmet was added to the mix. The chemistry of this contemporary rock band is easily apparent on stage and off; they love music and love performing, and it shows. These guys grew up together, and the way they read and feed off each other is uncanny. Their mission is simple - to play music that people want to hear and to crank up the energy until everyone is having a good time, no matter where they play, no matter how big the crowd. They give it everything they've got, and then a little more. Their focus and goal is to get people out into the live music scene wherever they play by being entertaining and playing music that is recognizable and upbeat.
Super Size Seven first appeared in February 2003 at Chester's in Cedar Rapids. The bar workers were quickly overwhelmed with the masses of people that came out that evening. This initial show helped propel the band forward, and they haven't looked back since. The most common remarks heard about a Super Size Seven show are how much fun the band has on stage, their tremendous ability to select great songs, and the incredible harmonies and vocal ranges they are able to maintain while putting on a very high-energy performance. Simply put, these guys are a blast to watch! The highlight of the show is undoubtedly their rendition of some great 60's songs, cranked up a few notches, that just packs the dance floor.
A Super Size Seven performance always includes a wide variety of contemporary and original rock music. Artists they cover include new groups like 3 Doors Down, Nickelback, Hoobastank, Good Charlotte, Blink 182, and The Dave Matthews Band, as well as a few standards by bands like AC/DC, Blondie, Gin Blossoms, and Motley Crue. Mixing those with The Monkees and Neil Diamond makes for a very diverse and entertaining show! The band has played numerous venues around Cedar Rapids: Chester's, 3rd Street Live!, Cocktails & Co., Kat's Lounge, Muddy Waters, and many private parties for graduations, weddings and just for fun. Future plans involve the release of an EP containing several recordings of their best original work, and expanding their fan base by branching out from Iowa to Illinois, Missouri, Minnesota, and elsewhere in the Midwest. The bottom line is, what you get when you go to see Super Size Seven is a great rock show. That's what you want, isn't it?
